Gag. Gag. Gag.
That's what's on my brain every day. Just about every minute of every day.
There is hardly anything I can think of that doesn't make me gag these days. I'm pretty sure I have the worst gag reflex in the world right now. And the way I see it: if I have to go through it, I'm going to make people go through it with me...or at least try. So, here's a list of the things responsible for making me gag.
Brushing my Teeth
I have to close my eyes to try to keep the gagging at bay. I also sometimes hum. I hate seeing the water go down the drain. More importantly, I hate hearing the water go down the drain. I have explained this in person to some friends and almost gagged just making the sound of the water going down. *shudder*
Sniffling
Something about this makes me gag. I'm not sure what it is.
Hearing People Slurp
Coffee. Soup. I don't care what it is. If you slurp, I will gag.
Swallowing
I don't mean when I have food in my mouth. You know how you sometimes just have to swallow? Well I have to do that twice as much now that I have twice as much saliva in my mouth. Apparently extra saliva is a side effect of pregnancy. And the woman with the worst gag reflex has this side effect. Great.
I think that's about it. However, whenever I'm not gagging, I'm nauseous, so the combination makes for excellent days.
I know, I know, I should be happy that I'm pregnant and the end result will be great. Well, I'm going to wait until you're pregnant and tell you that!
For real though, I am happy that I'm pregnant, and I know the end result will be great...I just can't wait to be done the first trimester!

Raspberry
Talk about a day you wouldn't expect.
Paisley has been off and on sick since she started going to daycare back in May. It's expected. Kids are sharing toys and sharing drool.
For the past month or so, she's been congested and coughing a bit. I took her to the doctor and he said everything was fine, so I started blaming it on allergies. Mostly because I wanted some explanation and that was the only thing that kind of made sense.
Paisley's daycare provider called me at lunch on Tuesday (she is so thoughtful) saying she thought Paisley may have an ear infection. She had been crying when drinking her bottle, and fussy in general. I kind of dismissed the warning that evening because she seemed totally fine. Ate fine, drank fine, slept fine.
Yesterday Paisley had two naps during the day which is kind of weird for her, but not so weird I would think something was wrong. She cuddled with me in the evening. Again, weird, but welcomed. She never snuggles.
This morning she woke up crying. She almost always wakes up crying because she hates her crib so much, but the unusual thing was that her crying was muffled. Normally she's sitting or standing right after waking up. The first thing I thought of was that the blanket got wrapped around her head in her sleep and she was choking to death. Ok, an overreaction, but whatever.
I ran into her room, flipped on the light and took a look. She was lying on her side, too weak to even roll over, let alone sit up. First I thought her arm was broken, it was so limp. I moved it but she didn't scream so I assumed it wasn't broken. I carried her into our room and laid her out on our bed. She was so limp. She was burning up and mostly unresponsive. She didn't really move her eyes. We debated calling the ambulance (we're over paranoid first time parents) but opted for driving her to the hospital ourselves.
Anyway, after two hours of waiting, a doctor finally saw us (can you believe there was no doctor there before 8 am?!). It ended up being a double ear infection. We picked up our prescription for antibiotics and went home.
Dave went to school and I took the rest of the day off. I was going to go to work after lunch, but couldn't justify leaving my sick baby with someone else while I went to go put a few hours in. Thank God.
Today, Paisley slept pretty much all morning. At around 1:45 pm she woke up kind of whimpering. I went upstairs to check on her but she had stopped crying. I was just about to go back downstairs when the Mommy Alert turned on (that inexplainable alert inside every Mom that somehow tells her something is wrong) and checked on her. She was completely stiff and jerking. I carried her to our room and called 911. The Paramedics came and took her to the hospital. Would have been a fun ride in the ambulance if it hadn't been for the surrounding circumstances. I will say this, they ride really smooth. And their seats are incredibly comfortable.
It took her about four hours for her to return to her throw-everything-on-the-floor-from-the-bed, hit-yourself-in-the-head-whenever-someone-says-no self. In the end we stayed there five and a half hours. She's fine, apparently it's common for babies and toddlers to have febral seizures. I had one when I was a baby. The only thing we have to do is continue the antibiotics and give her Tylenol or Advil every four hours for the next three days. Also, for the next three years, any time her temperature goes above 37.5 we have to start giving her medicine instead of letting her sweat it out.
Anyway, I just figured I'd post this on here instead of posting the whole thing on Facebook. Also, now if anyone asks me about it, I can tell them to read my blog instead of telling the whole story.
On a (happier) side note, I am 8 weeks pregnant today and my baby is the size of a Raspberry.

All About Babies
After hearing complaint after complaint of parents and their status updates on Facebook about how many teeth their child has or how many weeks pregnant they are, I decided to take a different route. To avoid being hidden, deleted or blocked on Facebook (you'd be surprised how often it happens!) I decided to vow to no more status updates on my pregnancy...except for really big stuff. But no daily countdowns! So, I've started this blog where I can talk about being pregnant and babies and nobody can stop me!
Just to give a heads up: this blog is all about babies and parenthood...and maybe some other stuff.
If babies and parenthood aren't what you like to read about, this blog is probably not for you. If it is what you like to read about, or you just like reading, read on!
